There is this saying that, "People that love you care about how they make you feel." I was once in agreement with that but over time I realised that it is arguable.

A few years back, I had a friend that said to me "You do not deserve my loyalty." Those words cut deep into my soul and I will never fully understand why she felt the need to say that or why she felt I did not deserve her loyalty. It never occured to me to ask at that moment in time because everything she said and did was a shock.

Disclaimer, this is not a justification for people's poor behaviour but sometimes people are not in the right space to give you what you want. Comprehension is more vital than communication. In school, we are taught the same curriculum but when the examination results are out, everyone has different marks showing their level of comprehension.

Some children are naturally clever and some need to read and practice extra hard so they can excel. Apply the same principles in life, some people are naturally more emotionally mature because of the qualities they have, they are sensitive, understanding, empathetic,... While some have to instil those qualities in themselves in order to have better relationships with others.

We know the world is filled with damaged people, people who do not know themselves, people who do know themselves and do not like themselves, people who lack emotional maturity or maturity in general, people whose insecurities eat them alive. The list of things that are mentally tormenting is endlessly long. These internal issues tend to reveal themselves in nasty ways.

Be sparing with how you analyze the way people treat you or what they say about you. Heavily consider the source. Many people lack the ability to meet you where they have not met themselves. They are fighting themselves and making everything and everyone a mirror.
