There is an increased need to view our learning spaces as communities over classrooms.
This presentation (below) was delivered on a Student Free Day to 160 members of staff in the attempts to reframe thinking about classrooms as 'spaces where teachers transmit knowledge'- because, as we know, they are so much more than that. And a truly responsive learning community must operate firstly from a position of empathy, the behavioural kind that moves beyond acknowledgement of diversity, but plans to include it, thereby building efficacy in our students, before we finally develop our practices for developing agency in our learners, where they take control over their learning and reach further, and find more innovative ways of showing their understanding and skills than we can imagine ourselves.
This is more than idealism. This is necessary.
If we want problem-solvers and world changers then this is practice that we can't ignore.
Have a look at the materials that were delivered and then please, start a chat with me about it. We're all in this together!
