Did you make a resolution this year? If so are you still working on it? I've heard from a couple of people who have been pleased with not only the efforts they put in during January, but also the results they've seen after just one month of working on them. Which is exactly why people talk about and consider setting resolutions each year: because some people do them and see great results! And people choose January 1 to start their resolutions because it's an easy point of measurement with the beginning of the new calendar year.

But as I was reminded this week, there's never a wrong time to start a resolution or change in your life. In fact, there are more than a dozen different New Years throughout the calendar year including the lunar or Chinese New Year, Rosh Hashanah or Jewish New Year, and Islamic New Year, and the many New Years occur between January and December. So if you feel the need to start a resolution on a "New Year" that happens soon, up next is the Chinese/Lunar New Year on February 1 (which may be today depending on when you're reading this!). I don't think this should take away any of the credibility or significance of choosing January 1 as your day for resolutions, but rather should be a reminder that change can happen or begin any time you're ready for it (or it needs to happen).

The story here for resolutions is a similar one for success. You may be successful doing something that someone else has done or starting when someone else starts. Or you may need to chart your own path doing your own thing at the time that's right for you. Yes, going by the calendar year makes it easy to remember when you started doing something, but I'd much rather say that I successfully did something, than be able to tell you when I did it. Guessing on the 'when' of something is much better than guessing on if it's done, rushing, doing something before you're ready or the resources are available, or doing something just because someone else did it then too. It's also true that you shouldn't let another whole calendar year go by before you take action on things that need work, start when you need to and are ready to. What successes have you started or achieved recently?
