Many of us still follow the tradition of making New Year resolutions. For some it is to lose weight, for others to do away with that nagging bad habit, and with others it is to take up a project that has been sitting on the proverbial back burner for far too long. There are also others who have given up on the idea of using a turn of the year to inspire them toward change. That is where this article can point you in the right direction. Yes, you can actually access God's power to conquer that habit or to finally succeed at that dream project you've always wanted to do! Whatever the subject of your "resolve" may be, you might be encouraged to know that there are scriptural truths you can tap into that just might give you the extra edge to really make it work this time.

The first step is coming to understand that God wants you to succeed! Not only when it comes to doing church stuff or putting down that "sinful" habit. But He wants you to reign in life and to prosper at everything you put your hand to. Now, I am by no means wanting to imply that things will always be easy. God never promised "easy". God does however, promise us that His desire for us is to be fruitful and multiply, to prosper in whatever we put our hand to. God wants His sons and daughters to be the envy of the world. Not that we flaunt it or lord it over people, but so that we are positioned to lead others into divine access to His abundance.

Since we are talking about two things here, we may have to break it down into more than one post. So, for today let's look at those things we want to get rid of and how to tap into God's power to conquer them. There is a basic rule from a behavior modification course I took in college. This may be a worldly technique but it transfers over from a Bible principle. If you want to change a behavior replace it with a different behavior. For example, if I want to quit stress eating go for quick walk around the block instead of to the kitchen. I can hear the inner man saying "what's this got to do with a Biblical approach?" Because rather than replacing food with a walk I'm suggesting that whatever the behavior I want to change is I can address it indirectly through another forming another habit.

Scripture teaches us that as believers we can: "Come boldly (or with confidence) to God's throne of grace and obtain mercy and find grace for our time of need." (He 4:16) This is the habit we want to form. A habit of "touching" or "accessing" God's throne until grace and/or mercy are poured out upon you! This is not only possible, it is God's invitation for you! Most believers have some understanding of grace but what is needed today is a grace awakening! God says "let whoever is thirsty come!"  Empowering grace and forgiving mercy flow from his throne and He says come and receive. We access His throne and His presence through faith in Christ's provision on the cross! He has paid every legal outstanding debt and redeemed for you free access to God's unlimited resource of spiritual empowerment! The idea here is that we allow our prayer to become a real and living conversation with God your creator and allow yourself to become real with Him about anything and everything. Then let Him pour into you that living water which quenches every appetite and thirst!

This is that real kind of prayer that contains habit breaking power! This is the prayer of faith which saves the sick. This is the encounter with God that breaks every heavy yoke of bondage and affliction. Our scripture teaches us that there is no limit to how often we can come nor is there a limit to how long we can stay. But we must gain the certainty that through Christ we can access Heaven's throne and stay there in His presence until transformation occurs. But don't settle with the one time experience you can get after anytime you want. That my friend is the good news of the gospel!
