Partnership Concept, Formula and Questions
Partnership : When two or more than two persons run a business jointly, they are called partners and the deal is known as partnership.
Ratio of Divisions of Profits
Case-I When investments of all the partners are for the same time
The profit or loss is distributed among the partners in the ratio of their investments.
Suppose A and B invest Rs. x and Rs. y respectively for a year in a business, then at the end of the year:
Case : II When investments are for different time periods
Suppose A invests Rs x for p months and B invests Rs y for q months, then
Question. A, B and C started a business by investing Rs 12000, Rs 13000 and Rs 15000 respectively. Find the share of each, out of an annual profit of Rs 16000.
Solution Ratio of shares of A, B and C
= Ratio of their investments
= 12,000 : 13,000 : 15,000
= 12 : 13 : 15
Profit share of A =
Profit share of B =
Profit share of C
Question Ram and Sameer are partners in a business. Ram invests Rs 3500 for 8 months and Sameer invests Rs 4200 for 10 months. Out of a profit of Rs 3150, Sameer's share is ?
Answer Ratio of their shares = 3500 x 8 : 4200 x 10 = 2 : 3

Questions Puneet started a business with an investment of Rs 120,000. After three months, Ankush joined him with an investment of Rs 190,000. They earned a profit of Rs 17,50,000 after one year. What is Ankush's share in the profit?
Solution Puneet Profit : Ankush Profit
= 120,000 x 12 : 190,000 x 9
= 16 : 19
Ankush share in profit
= 9,50,000
Question A and B started a business in the ratio of 2 : 3. After 1 year A left the business but B continues. After 2 years he had the profit of Rs 26000. What is the profit of B?
Solutions Let the initial capitals of A and B be 2x and 3x respectively.
Then, Ratio of profits = (2x × 12) : (3x × 24)
= 24x : 72x = 1 : 3.
