Courage greater than your fear
"COURAGE is finding something that is greater than your fear, and moving toward it."
(by Rich Corsair Melcher, adapted from a line by Stephen R. Covey)
WHY these words? What happened inside of me when I co-created them? Was it a mountain peak being reached? an ocean swam? a desert traversed?
At times heard courage explained not as being afraid but as being afraid AND going on anyway—and I remained too afraid to move.
Often heard courage as being able to pull yourself up by your bootstraps, but wondering if everyone is really wearing boots.
Heard courage as looking for tiger in the eye and never flinching, but never having met a tiger in person, fear persisted.
Then came FINDING SOMETHING IMPORTANT and I realized where I had gone wrong all along in my life—the focus need not be on the fear, but on something more important…really important…that doesn't merely distract one from a fearful stance, but offers a new and empowering focus that lifts a person, literally, to new heights—
Something that creates lift instead of drag—like the Corsair WWII fighter plane zooming off the aircraft carrier—and creates the pressure on the wings to raise the plane of one's life into the sky of opportunity, success, destiny…
(15 words)
Courage is
finding something important
that is greater than your
fear,
and moving toward it!
Enlightening, Enriching, Empowering
