[New post] What do you do if you have a 40 year old daughter who still lives at home, doesn’t work, and has depression so bad she can’t even handle a little stress? Her therapist thinks she will never recover and I don’t want to take care of her forever.

However, there is always someone who has it worse than us.
First thing's first, you must encourage her, wit words. Tell that 40 is not too late to move out and be on her own.
Secondly, can you help her find a job, any reasonable job. It does not have to be a well-paying job, anything reasonable that she can pay affordable rent with for a start. It is still not too late to live in a small house.
Thirdly, you must be her counsellor. No one knows their daughter best than daddy and mommy, not a counsellor or a therapist. You must be her best and closest ally and she can talk to you about anything. Your work is to help her attain small steps to leave the house.
Last but not least, have a friend of hers who is set and is doing well also talk to her and encourage her that she still can move out and be on her own.
