The last 31 days of the year 2021 takes place tomorrow. Yes, it's almost December.

One could contemplate, "Where did the year go?" Given the persistence of the pandemic and its continued impact, one could also shout: "Good riddance!"

Staying optimistic, I look forward to December 1 for this reason: It is the day that I get to attend the first of two upcoming in-person events hosted through the Chicago Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Tomorrow, I'll join public relations professionals for the 2021 Senior Leaders reception.  Since 2003, the Chapter has recognized outstanding men and women from metropolitan Chicago agencies and companies for their contributions to the profession.  I've had the honor of knowing and working with several.

(Having worked in public relations for quite a few years and been a long-time chapter member and volunteer, I trust I'm "senior" enough to merit an invitation.)

And, on December 7, I will join PRSA Chicago members and guests for the Annual Holiday Party.  (You still can register.)

So, what's the big deal about attending two in-person December receptions? We've been able to participate in all kinds of non-digital events and activities for months -- albeit under mask mandates (at least here in Illinois) and in some instances having to demonstrate vaccination or a recent "green" COVID test.

If it's not too obvious, I get to hob nob and interact with fellow communicators, called "storytellers" in some circles -- in the flesh. It's doubtful if conversation will lean toward successful strategies and tactics or the value behind Hootsuite. But, I'll be able to share thoughts with people in my profession, something I have missed for a long time.

Fortunate to have all the material things I can ever need at this stage, these upcoming gatherings are holiday gifts I will truly welcome and embrace.
