What impressed me the most, after having assimilated the gigantism of the place, is silence. The size of the machines, their metallic, monolithic aspect easily allow one to imagine the noise that was to reign in this busy place. Shocks, squeaks, rumblings of the metal, workers shouting to try to be heard. Everything stopped one day... The smoke, the dust, the heat also disappeared.
The city around has fallen asleep. Today we walk between these monuments, speechless. And silence reigns.
Little light here. Black is everywhere, coal is black. The black of time. So these photos are dark and black, as if we had to go and find what is hidden in this darkness.
