Introduction
I feel incredibly proud of my blog most of the time, especially with what I've achieved in a year. But, sometimes, the feeling of failure overwhelms me, and I feel like a bad blogger. I feel like I am a tiny fish in a gigantic ocean, and every other fish was informed about the ocean, but I wasn't. Confused? That's how I sometimes feel about blogging.
Incredibly confused.
I'll feel good for a while, and then I will start to question everything.
This blog post will explain why I feel like a bad blogger, along with what to do when you feel like a bad blogger.
Why I feel like a bad blogger
This section will share some reasons why I feel like a bad blogger.
Unchecked to-do list
I was meant to kick-start pinterest again this month, and I didn't. I was meant to start writing content for December, and I didn't. I have so many items on my to-do list that aren't checked off. It feels like there is always something else to do, something I am missing.
I participated in Blogtober this year, and I started to feel like such a bad blogger because I didn't have the time to juggle life and reading blog content created by other bloggers. I've felt like a bad blogger because I don't feel like I've properly participated in the blogging community recently.
Overflowing inbox
If you have emailed me in the last few months, I 100% won't have seen it. My email inbox is embarrassingly full, and I try to sit down to go through it all, but it's one of those things where it feels like too much to deal with, which means it just builds up and builds up.
Next steps
I have no idea what steps I should take next in terms of my blogging. I mean, I do, but I don't. I kind of do, but is it the right step? How would I manage? If I go self-hosted, will it be an easy process? Do I have to wait to reach certain statistics before going self-hosted?
I have so many questions, and while the internet is a great resource, there are so many different answers to those questions, I don't know which way is forward.
I feel like a bad blogger for not knowing what to do next.
What to do when you feel like a bad blogger
I hope these tips can help you if you feel like a bad blogger. I'll be honest, I am writing them for myself and hoping they will help others.
Balance
Sometimes, you might have a to-do list that doesn't get completed in the time frame you set. Sometimes life gets in the way, and your to-do list can start to multiply.
Finding the right balance is key. You need to work out when you will have free time to work on your blog and set realistic goals. Blogtober has taught me that I need balance; I can't post every day and expect to keep up with every area of blogging, especially when you combine work, personal commitments and social events. That is why I have created a schedule for November, which will help me balance different areas of my life, which I will talk about properly in a later post.
Rome wasn't built in a day
Good things take time. You can't expect to be on the same level as other bloggers. Not even the one's that started at the same time as you. Other people have different priorities and goals in mind, especially when it comes to blogging. Everyone works hard towards the goal they have in mind.
Keep going, and work towards your goal, not someone else's.
Everyone starts somewhere
A similar point to the last, but I just wanted to reinforce it. Every blogger started somewhere. It can be overwhelming when you look at other bloggers and see that they have over 1,000 followers or over 10k monthly views, but they started from 0 as well. Don't compare yourself to others who are further ahead on their journey, as it can stop you from taking steps in yours.
Comparison is the thief of joy, after all. The only comparison you should be making is between yourself today and yesterday.
Focus on one thing at a time
Does anyone else do this? You might be writing a blog post, but you are thinking of what graphic to create for the thumbnail, if you've shared your previous blog post on Twitter, or if the laundry is done. Focus on one thing at a time.
I know you might have a lot on your plate, and this might not be reasonable, but it can reduce how overwhelmed you might feel.
Summary
As you can see, this was more or less a ranting message to myself about why I feel like a bad blogger and what I can do to stop feeling like that.
Thank you, I needed a good rant about feeling like I'm a bad blogger. While I will sometimes feel like a bad blogger, I need to remember moments like this after writing a blog post. Moments when I feel happy and proud. I finally have somewhere to share my thoughts, and if someone can relate to what I am saying, even one person, it will be worth it.
If I'm honest, it's worth it anyway, as I love writing my thoughts on this blog.
For all the bloggers out there! You are amazing.
