Hebrews 11:1 KJV
[1] Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
In essence faith is what every follower of Jesus Christ has built their future upon.
Such faith is seen in an old man named Simeon.
Luke 2:25-32 KJV
[25] And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. [26] And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. [27] And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, [28] then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, [29] Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, According to thy word: [30] For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, [31] Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; [32] A light to lighten the Gentiles, And the glory of thy people Israel.
Simeon didn't have to watch Jesus grow up.
His faith wasn't hinged upon hearing Christ preached.
He wouldn't live long enough to see Jesus crucified or resurrected.
Simeon didn't need those experiences to have faith in this tiny babe being the Savior of the World.
The Holy Spirit testified to the truth and Simeon declared it, speaking prophecy.
Today, we can also trust in the Lord Jesus without seeing Him nor hearing His teachings nor witnessing His death and resurrection, for it is by faith we believe and faith comes by the Word of God.
Romans 10:17 KJV — So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The same faith that brought Simeon seeking the Child born King is the faith of those who put their trust in Jesus Christ.
It is a faith we can share with those who have gone before us and it is our faith in Jesus Christ that we can pass on to those who are coming after us.
Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV
[1] Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, [2] looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for Your Word! Your faithfulness astounds me and Your love is incredible! Lord, when I consider all You have done on my behalf, I am humbled and grateful. My most costly gift cannot begin to compare with Yours. Thank You for coming to Earth. Thank You for enduring all that You walked through, especially the cross. Thank You for the work You are doing in the lives of Your followers. Thank You for Your love and Your Word. May the hearts of those who have yet to know You be drawn to Your Word and Your salvation. Lord, let those who know You find blessing and encouragement through faith. Let each one of us return to our first love with a whole heart, rejoicing in Your salvation and seeking Your face daily. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
