You’d think a newsletter or a little life update would be easy to write, a casual little update, a conversational chat, but it is difficult to write about the endless nothings of passing weeks in a manner that has any point at all. So without further ado, I give you a list of things I’ve been loving lately in no particular order. Autumn WeatherThe nothings of the passing weeks have been sweet. It rained in the desert and the roads flooded with water that made the streets quite impassable. Heavenly downpours that herald the coming of autumn. I await sweater weather and thrifting for fall colors and knits. I await pumpkin pies and hot chocolates and chai tea. The cozy is slowly settling in one chilly morning after another. Even if it is not the colorful autumn of Virginia with mountains of trees blazing with colors and leaves crunching underfoot, it is a semblance of fall that brings a small comfort. The Great British Baking ShowIt is the perfect season to watch the British Baking Show at the nice easy pace of an episode a week. It’s such fun to see the creativity people bring to baking and to be inspired to try out any number of fall dessert recipes that pop up on Instagram. Pictured are the brownie chocolate chip “brookies” my boyfriend and I baked. Mushroom CoffeeI am converting to mushroom coffee. I recently tried Ryze Mushroom Coffee with their coconut creamer and a splash of milk and loved it. I love the idea of coffee but whenever I find myself with a cup in hand, I struggle to finish it. Even though I know I like the idea of coffee over the taste, I am easily persuaded by romantic pictures of frothy lattes and pretty iced coffees. The aesthetic is charming but the cup in hand is not, especially after the first few sips become the last few sips. Now, will I still have a deliciously flavored latte from time to time? Or try a new drink from a local coffee shop? Absolutely! Mushroom coffee is what I plan on drinking consistently as I find I can easily drink a cup, even on mornings when I am pressed for time and must be off to campus. Reading Short StoriesI am reading short stories for my American short story class, my short story fiction workshop, and my independent study which equates to an amazing number of short stories. It is interesting to see some of the same short stories come up for different reasons in multiple classes, but I love being able to bring what I learn from one class to the reading of the short story in another class. Short stories I have enjoyed include
Talking About Study AbroadI have never been comfortable on camera and especially not in speaking on the spot. This is a feeling I am actively tackling by seizing opportunities to speak on camera. I know that being able to articulate thoughts during interviews and speaking events is a core part of marketing and publicizing books these days and it is a skill I want to build. To that end, I loved being part of an interview with a local news station here in Tucson about the University of Arizona’s study abroad program. WATCH HERE. NovemberYes, she’s right around the corner! Which means it’ll be market season in Tucson. I’m excited to volunteer at one of my favorite holiday markets this year to help market day go smoothly and to start my holiday shopping. And that’s all she wrote for now!
