An initial probe into a fatal crash at Sarrot on Sunday that claimed the life of Bexon resident Peter Leon found that his vehicle suddenly started sliding backwards.
According to a police release, at about 1:30 p.m., the Traffic Department received a report of a runoff collision along Chopin Road, Sarrot, Castries.
"Based on initial investigations, the vehicle was observed traveling along Chopin Road when it suddenly started sliding backwards in the opposite direction of its intended path," the release said.
The vehicle eventually swerved off the main road and down a steep slope, ejecting its sole occupant.
Investigators found the wreckage at the base of a precipice and Peter Leon's body a few feet away.
Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) emergency personnel transported the injured Bexon resident to the OKEU Hospital, where a medical practitioner later pronounced the 58-year-old dead.
The police said their Traffic Department is investigating the incident and will provide more information as it becomes available.
